The French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (MEDDE) is in charge of Transport. This allows for a multi-sectoral approach in public policies, and comprehensive actions in the fields of transport, environment, waste, water, construction, energy and risk management.

The French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks (IFSTTAR) is the major French transport research entity. It deals with all modes and all aspects of transport, and works with the private sector and the Ministry's research centres.

In relation to this year's theme, France will show how the State, local authorities, researchers, operators, infrastructure managers and public agencies work together for infrastructure and services funding and financing.

At the end of this year’s Summit, France will take over the revolving presidency of the event.

France will host the TRA (Transport Research Arena) conference in Paris from 14 to 17 April 2014. This conference aims at gathering transport professionals, practitioners, policy-makers and researchers together around scientific and user-oriented presentations. It takes place every two years in Europe, and 2014's specificity will be to open to active modes, in addition to all other surface modes. The call for papers for TRA2014 will be open until April 30th, 2013.
